Back to ancient times bewitching jewelry has been used by both men and women to adorn their body. From gemstones to crystals talismans and amulets adorned the body. And thanks to the celebrities who have taken up this trend once again. Metaphysical estate jewelry amulets and talismans are once again gaining popularity. No let me rephrase that they are “hot!”

From ancient times right through to modern day amulets and talismans are worn for their metaphysical properties. They are believed to possess special powers such as keeping one safe, improving ones mind, finding love, or warding off evil. Each gem is believed to contain its own magical powers.

Crystals are used to energize and balance the body and it is perfect for meditation. They are also known for their healing powers. Pearls are believed to attract love. Amber is believed to purify, while amber enhances intuition and the third eye.

Diamonds release sexual tension while sapphires enhance friendship. Carnelian awakens the senses and citrine promotes a happy disposition. Emerald enhances dreams and enhances the spiritual body.

Goldstone stores the energy of those it touches, while hematite enhances one intellectual qualities. Jade balance and encourages wisdom and Lapis increases your awareness. Jasper protects and has a calming effect. The star sapphire enhances creativity, self confidence, and awareness.

Malachite balances emotionally and relieves stress, moonstone aligns the emotions, and obsidian removes negativity. Opal is known to enhance intuition, peridot relaxes, pink opal activates inner healing, and rose quartz is considered the love stone.

Smokey quartz removes negativity, Tigers eye increases intuitively and the third eye, and turquoise protects the wearer. Garnet increases creativity and understanding and is said to bring success to business.

Rhodonite reduces stress, jasper enhances ones awareness, and agate will help achieve closure. Aquamarine removes negativity, enhances clarity, and provides emotional balance. Blue tourmaline will enhance your communication ability; green tourmaline will bring peaceful sleep and relaxation.

Gold enhances the power of the gem while silver is thought to be neutral.

Today these gems are worn for their beauty in jewelry and for their metaphysical powers. Metaphysical jewelry is more than a fashion statement and celebrities are quick to recognize the additional powers that can be found by wearing specific gems.

Celebrities are often the first to recognize the beauty or charm of something. They are usually the first to introduce a fashion that becomes popular. Metaphysical jewelry is no different. With more and more celebrities wearing metaphysical jewelry the general population’s interest has been awoken.

From Courtney Cox to Alicia Keys. From Brad Pitt to Ben Afflek there are hundreds of celebrities and rock stars wearing metaphysical jewelry. Perhaps they know something the rest of us have only read about. Perhaps it’s time we found out why they find metaphysical gem amulets and talismans so popular.

When it comes to gemstone jewelry and the metaphysical qualities there are many beliefs. What is known for certain is that these jewelry pieces are beautiful and the celebrities know how to mix beauty with mysticism so why not take lessons from them

Jewelry today can be very costly, and though it is beautiful, many of us simply do not want to shell out the money for a real Gucci watch. The great thing is, with the advances in authentic jewelry crafting there have also been great advances in the replication of these products. You can now buy a fake Gucci watch that will look almost as good as the real thing. In fact, if you don’t tell anyone most people will assume that your fake Gucci watch is authentic, that is how good the replication has become. If you buy a fake Gucci watch you can wear it with pride, and unless your best friend is a jeweler, he or she will never know that you don’t have the real thing sitting on your wrist!

While many do not consider a watch jewelry, Gucci definitely does and they make sure that the price tags reflect that school of thought. If you want a real Gucci watch you can expect to spend from several hundred up to several thousand dollars. Many real Gucci watches come in stainless steel, silver, as well as gold. There is no denying that these real watches are beautiful, because how could they not be? However, if you are a fan of the Gucci watch and you do not have the money to buy the real thing, why not buy a fake Gucci watch until you have the money or the desire to buy the real thing?

When you buy a fake Gucci watch you will be able to notice subtle differences. Usually the face of an authentic Gucci and that of a fake vary slightly. These may be small differences in the plating of the face, the encasing of the face, the way the numbers are located on the face, and even the way the minute and hour hand move. The real Gucci watch will likely have very smooth moving hands and will always keep time beautifully. Your fake Gucci watch will still be beautiful, but the hour and minute hand on your watch won’t seem to glide along the face of the watch but many people don’t notice this anyway and like the fact that the watch does just what it should: keep time!

A fake Gucci watch will generally be lighter than the real thing, as well. If you are looking at a replica of a gold Gucci watch, you can buy a gold plated replica that will look almost like the real thing for a lot less. Instead of paying several thousand for a gold Gucci watch you can pay several hundred. Because the watch is simply gold plated it will be much lighter, but unless you take it off and allow others to weigh it most will never suspect it isn’t the real thing. Another thing about the fake Gucci watch is that the links in the band or bracelet will be hollow, also adding to its lighter weight. Many find that they actually like the lighter watch better, but again, unless you take the watch off no one will notice that the links are hollow.

A fake Gucci watch can be purchased to imitate just about any Gucci watch that is on the market today. Gucci watches are very popular, but they are also expensive, so there is a big consumer base for the replicas. Because they look so similar many are finding that the fake Gucci watch is simply a better solution for them because they can get the look, and still get the high quality without the excessive premium.

Despite the fact that many perceive Nintendo to be on the downturn in the video game industry, enthusiasts of the popular company will be happy to hear that the latest news is of exactly the opposite. The latest release of financial statements from Nintendo shows that the company has actually seen growth rather than any sort of decline.

According to the company’s financial statements, the consolidated net profit for October-December rose to 55.56 billion ($479.7 million) as compared to 21.3 billion for the same period last year. For the nine months ending December 31st, the company posted a net profit of 92.2 billion ($801 million) up from 67.8 billion for the same time frame in the previous fiscal year, a 36% increase.

However, news like this still doesn’t sway people like the CEO of 3D Realms, Scott Miller, who says, “My prediction for this new round of consoles is that the Xbox 360 and PS3 will wind up about equal in terms of sales, with Nintendo’s Revolution coming in a distant third,” Miller writes. “Perhaps this will be the last console from [Nintendo].”

Will the Nintendo Revolution truly be Nintendo’s last console or are they just ingenious and we haven’t realized it yet? According to the stats, Nintendo might really know what they are doing after all.

For more news, check out our Xbox 360 site or our PS3 site.

Scrapbooking is so much fun, that it’s very easy to rack up quite a bill when shopping. I know when my daughter and I visited the craft store last week, she was just mesmerized in the scrapbook aisle. She truly wanted one of everything. Today, there is so much you can add to a page, stickers, embellishments, ribbons and stamps.

So, how can you get all of the goodies without breaking the bank? I have two suggestions. The first is scrapbook kits. We belong to a monthly scrapbook club. So, every month we receive an assortment of papers, an assortment of stickers and an assortment of embellishments all in one kit. We mix and match our kits all of the time. If we never bought anything but the kits, we’d have enough materials to make many great pages. The manufacturers of scrapbook kits almost always offer a lower price on the kit versus what you would pay if you purchased each item individually. You’ll find kits available for themes, such as weddings, birthdays and summer vacations, and you’ll also find kits available for seasons, summer, winter, autumn and fall. Having two daughters, I’ve also purchased several “girl” kits. While I don’t have boys, I’ve seen baby boy kits, sports kits and car kits.

My second suggestion is clearance sales. If you are a scrapbooker, you know that you’ll be scrapbooking in a years’ time. I buy scrapbook supplies, the same way I buy clothes, after the season. Once summer is over, all of the scrapbook companies make room for their fall inventory by lowering the prices on all remaining summer products. This is the best time to buy those summer colors. The same is true in reverse. If you want the darker autumn tones of paper, wait until summer is here and then stock up. We buy a lot of discontinued products. They work great, but we get them for a fraction of the cost.

We actually combine the two ideas and buy scrapbook kits on sale, after the season. It really is possible to enjoy the hobby of scrapbooking while saving money on the supplies.

Audrey Okaneko has been scrapbooking for several years. She can be reached at audreyoka@cox.net or visited at http://www.scrapping-made-simple.com.

Blog Tags03 Jan 2009 03:14 pm

Those of you who have been reading my site JoelComm.com (and that’s all of you, right?) will know that my mom has just started blogging. I’m so proud of her. You can see her blog at www.travelswithsheila.com, and most importantly you can see how she’s optimized her ads.

That’s a great case study for anyone wondering where to put their ads on their blog. They’re beautifully optimized and they’re already bringing in money.

Now, my mom has never been much of a tech-head. She’s only now thinking of buying a laptop. But what’s impressed me is how fast she got up and earning with a blog.

I think that sometimes those of us who have been building sites and uploading content for years forget how frightening dealing with servers and finding domains can be for newbies.

Blogging is the ultimate solution. You can have your own blog in minutes and plugging in the ads is an absolute breeze. Heck, Blogger practically throw the ads at you.

The only possible concern with blogs is how you can get the maximum income from them. Once you’ve got the ads blended and positioned, all that’s left to do is play with is content. You’ve really got two choices here. You can either keep writing about the things that interest you and hope that those topics are interesting enough to interest lots of other people. Or you can focus your writing on products to bring up targeted ads with expensive keywords.

I think that the best strategy is to do both at the same time.

The reason that people read blogs is that they feel they have a relationship with the person behind the page. They like them. They trust them. And they’re interested in what they have to say. Create a blog that’s focused solely on bringing up high-earning ads, and you’ll get those ads. But you won’t have anyone to click on them.

Create a blog that interests you and others and use it to mention topics that are going to bring up good ads and you’ll get the best of both worlds. Again, my mom’s blog is a great example of this. When she writes about her travels, she creates some great stories that are really fun to read. But she also might mention the equipment she uses when she’s hiking down a mountain or skiing down a slope. That provides good information for her readers and good ads that pay for her blog.

Know which products you can work into your blog?

Baiting01 Jan 2009 03:59 am

There are essentially three ways to catch fish:

• Use live, natural baits

• Use imitation or artificial baits and lures

• Use hardware such as traps, nets, etc.

One of the most efficient and productive of these three methods is to use live, natural baits. This is especially true if the waters and area you’re fishing are new or unknown to you. These live, natural baits are proven effective when acquired locally. Their price is right since they’re available for free. You “spend” only the time to gather them. Be sure to check local and regional regulations on the use of live baits.

Worms

The world’s all-time favorite. You can dig them up from your yard or garden or a wooded area near your fishing grounds. If you’re not that energetic, get some kids to do it for you. They’re available most of the year (winter might be tough), easy to find and gather. Leave the smaller ones. Use the larger earthworms or night crawlers.

Minnows

A technique I like involves using an old window screen. We used to walk along in the surf of the Chesapeake Bay with a framed meter-square piece of window screen to trap all kinds of small salt water fish, crustaceans, sand worms and even small crabs. It made for an interesting series of “catches” and provided endless hours of simple fun for me and my siblings. Minnows swim in fairly large schools so you can scoop up a bunch of them fairly quickly. Walk a few feet with the screen in the water. Lift it up quickly to scoop up your catch. Then dump it into a bucket. Repeat the procedure as you walk along the beach or shore. Keep them alive and fresh in a bucket partially filled with the same waters you collected them from.

Crabs

To catch crabs you can use a crab pot or home made traps. Be sure to check local regulations. These can be used in brackish and salt water shallows baited with a chicken wing tip or other bony meat. At a beach fronting a wooded area more than one kind of crab can be caught. I designed a simple “drop in” trap that I set into the sand near the edge of a coconut grove and caught hermit crabs, fiddler crabs and sand crabs. I even got a small snake once, but that’s another story.

Insects

Crickets, grasshoppers, beetles and other insects can be caught in a meadow, wooded area or park using a butterfly-type net. Lightning bugs (which flash their tail lights at night) are a good bet too. Crawling insects, grubs, maggots and larvae are good too. They are often found under rocks, fallen logs or other materials which have been on the ground for some time. Again, you could just get a bunch of kids to do it for you if you don’t have the time or need the exercise. Cockroaches make good live bait too if you can stomach using them. Not the small North American varieties that plague households mind you, but the large, three-inch long ones common here in South America and in Asia.

So, look into what live, natural baits are available locally near your favorite fishing grounds. It never hurts to have a variety of presentations for those “dog days” of fishing. Fishing with some new offerings can add an extra dimension to your next fishing trip. Getting them might even be a bit of fun too, especially if you “involve” the kids. On vacation, abroad or simply “away” from your usual fishing haunts, it’ll put more than an extra bit of enticement into your presentations. Good luck.

Although blogging has been around for years, it’s only in the last year or so that it’s really become big, especially in business.

Some of the top corporations now have blogs, and you can read about these corporations, as well as get news.

The main reason blogs are so popular is because they’re personal. It gives the author an opportunity to inject his/her personality into his/her writing.

How does this apply to your business? There are many ways, but here are five:

1. You can brand your business.

Branding isn’t just for big business. You can brand yourself too. By creating your own niche and writing about it, you can create your brand. By branding yourself, others will associate your product with you.

It’s not enough to get traffic to your site. You need targeted traffic, and the more targeted your traffic is, and the more traffic you get, the more opportunities you have to make sales.

Blogging is not just an effective branding tool. It’s also an effective public relations tool, allowing you to further build your image and brand.

2. You can become an expert.

When you share what you know on a topic, it gives you the opportunity to be perceived as an expert. You are providing additional value to your product.

When you are perceived as an expert, people are more likely to listen to what you have to say.

By establishing yourself as an expert on a topic, you are offering value to potential customers that your competition isn’t. Not only that, you can drastically cut your marketing expenses because your potential customers are coming to you.

This is called pull marketing. Pull marketing is much more effective than push marketing because you are drawing customers to you, and they already want what you have to sell.

3. You can establish credibility.

Credibility is a difficult thing to establish on the internet. You need to gain your potential customer’s trust before he/she will buy from you.

Although there are certain things you can do that can help with trust and credibility, like adding your phone number to your site, a blog is more effective. It will help you get your potential customer to see you as a real person, not just someone behind a computer.

4. You can create a new marketing channel.

Email marketing isn’t as effective as it used to be. Too many problems exist now with spam and filters. It can be nearly impossible for you to get your marketing message through.

With blogs, you can use RSS, as well as other forms of communication, like podcasting, to get your marketing message through.

Blogging opens up technology for you in a way that email doesn’t. It gives you a variety of ways to distribute your marketing message and increases your chances of your marketing message being effective.

5. Creates a communications channel with your potential customers.

Blogs are interactive. You can allow your potential customer to leave messages for you in your comments. He/she can ask you questions, and you can respond more quickly.

This will also save you time in the future because others may have the same questions. You’ll already have the answer easily available.

Blogs are also more responsive in that you can write about the latest trends in your topic and give your potential customers the latest information.

6. Solves your search engine optimization problems.

Blogs are search engine friendly, and you can get your blog spidered faster and easier than you can a traditional site.

This can help you get traffic from the search engines quicker and easier, and the beauty of it is that it’s targeted traffic.

Although blogs may have started out as personal journals, their business application is far more reaching. Blogs can help you explode your business marketing efforts in a way that no other internet marketing method can. Blogging, although not required, is something you should consider if you want to increase your business and increase your profits.

A diamond wedding ring represents one of the most important purchases you will make in your life. The right ring can make just the right impression with your bride, while also serving as the perfect expression of your love. But how can you make such an expensive purchase with confidence? By having a firm understanding of the 4 C’s of course, and we’re not talking bread crumbs. The 4 C’s of a diamond determine its overall value and eye appeal. In this article, we’ll break down these important details while giving you the tips for buying an expensive diamond wedding ring

If you are unfamiliar with the 4 C’s, they simply stand for a diamond’s cut, color, clarity, and carat. These four characteristics are the benchmarks by which all diamonds are measured, and having a solid understanding of them will make buying an expensive diamond wedding ring a lot easier. Before we get started though, it is recommended that you only buy from a reputable jeweler. This will work to your advantage in a couple of ways. 1) The jeweler will be able to further discuss the 4 C’s with you in a knowledgeable fashion and 2) you will be sure that you are receiving the highest quality diamond. So, let’s take a look at the first C - cut.

The cut of the diamond refers to just that - the manner in which the diamond was originally shaped. The cut of the diamond is arguably the most important factor to consider when choosing a ring. The reason for this is because a well cut diamond will perpetually reflect light and create a visually stunning effect. If a diamond is poorly cut, the diamond may not reach its full potential, and you will most likely be wasting your money. Always be sure your expensive diamond wedding ring is cut to perfection, regardless of its actual shape (round, oval, pear, square, etc).

The second C is color. You may assume that a diamond is white, and this is true to some extent. However, diamonds have different shades of white, and these shades are graded using a letter system from D to Z. Naturally, diamonds with colors graded in the first few letters (D-G) tend to be very rare and therefore very expensive. But that’s not to say that diamonds graded with higher numbers aren’t just as stunning. Remember, the four factors taken as a whole will make the ultimate determination.

The third C is clarity, and this refers to the often undistinguishable “imperfections” of a diamond. As you probably know, diamonds are formed in nature, so they most times have some sort of inconsistency. What you are looking for (and what a reputable jeweler can help you find) is a diamond that has the least amount of these marks. These diamonds will have high clarity grades, and these are the diamonds that will be most worth your money.

The fourth and final C is carat. The diamond’s carat refers to its weight and size. It is important for you to know that jewelers will refer to carats as points in the business. For example, even though a carat actually weighs .2 grams, a jeweler will refer to a carat as 100 points. This tip will keep you from getting confused when looking at diamond specifications.

You now possess the necessary tips for buying an expensive diamond wedding ring. In addition to choosing a high quality jeweler, your new found knowledge of the 4 C’s will ensure that you make a wise and beautiful wedding ring purchase.

Amsterdam is a major historical location for the diamond industry. Walking down the streets you will see a lot of jewelry stores as well as many diamond businesses with prominent security systems and signs reading “guided diamond tours”.

If you go on these tours you’ll see some breathtaking diamonds, as well a chance to see these stones being cut and polished. And if you have some cash to spare, purchase one for $4000 to $400,000.

Amsterdam has an extended history relating to diamonds, and has been a major diamond center since Sephardic Jews introduced the diamond cutting industry to Amsterdam in the later 16th century. Nowadays there are about a dozen diamond cutting facilities in the city, 5 of which offer guided tours. The tours are free and are usually conducted 9am to 5pm each day.

Amsterdam has an extended heritage in the diamond business, and has been a major European diamond center since Sephardic Jews introduced the diamond cutting industry in the later 16th century. Ultra-Orthodox Jews are still prominent in worldwide diamond marketing and distribution, and urban legend has it they hide diamonds in their beards to move them through customs without being detected. Diamonds are not necessarily cheaper in Amsterdam; however prices are fairly competitive. At least you will have seen the stones being worked, and when you purchase from a factory you get an extensive description of the diamond you acquire so you know exactly what you are buying.

The following renowned diamond stores offer diamond-cutting and polishing tours, and sales of the finished diamonds:

Coster Diamonds
Gassan Diamonds
Stoeltie Diamonds

Van Moppes Diamonds, which was the the 1st company to offer guided tours.

Be sure to sample authentic Dutch food at the numerous cafes. If you have a chance eat a “brodje haring” (an open-faced sandwich with salted herring) or try other seafood specialties from the cuisine of this seafaring nation.

The best time to visit Holland is spring or fall when the heat of summer and the droves of tourists have departed and the leaves on the trees aren’t blocking the review of the monumental facades. The winters are penetratingly cold and wet with lots of rain and sleet. Because of the high humidity, it actually feels as cold as the thirty-below winters common in Canada. Come in spring (March through May) and catch the Holland Flower Festival at Keukenhof.

If you’re over 40, make sure you pack a pair of reading/magnifying glasses: museums tend to utilise microscopic lettertypes for their descriptive plaques.

Just here are a select few of Amsterdam’s major attractions:

Anne Frank Home (Anne Frank Huis)
National Museum (Rijksmuseum)
Van Gogh Museum
Red Light District
National Museum of Modern Art (Stedelijk Museum)
Amstelkring Museum (Our Lord in the Attic Chapel)
Museum Het Rembrandt Huis (Rembrandt House)
Jewish Historical Museum (Joods Historisch Museum)
Dam Square
Sauna Deco

Amsterdam sail:
Sail Amsterdam

If you love boats, KNSM Island with its shipping history is the place for you. Every five years this harbor area of Amsterdam hosts the Sail event. Every new edition attracts even more visitors (Sail 2000 welcomed two and a half million people). Every edition also offers even more Tall Ships and even more cultural activities in the area.

The Van Gogh Museum contains the largest collection of works by Vincent Van Gogh, the tragic artist who cut off his ear and committed suicide. You will find more than 200 incredible works from the Master’s hand, as well as 500 drawings and 700 written documents. Together these provide a historic insight into his life and art.

Amsterdam is a fascinating place with lots of things to see and do besides diamonds and diamond businesses. After one visit I’m sure you’ll be so fascinated you will be determined to come back.
