6 Reasons You Need a Blog for Your Business
Although blogging has been around for years, it’s only in the last year or so that it’s really become big, especially in business.
Some of the top corporations now have blogs, and you can read about these corporations, as well as get news.
The main reason blogs are so popular is because they’re personal. It gives the author an opportunity to inject his/her personality into his/her writing.
How does this apply to your business? There are many ways, but here are five:
1. You can brand your business.
Branding isn’t just for big business. You can brand yourself too. By creating your own niche and writing about it, you can create your brand. By branding yourself, others will associate your product with you.
It’s not enough to get traffic to your site. You need targeted traffic, and the more targeted your traffic is, and the more traffic you get, the more opportunities you have to make sales.
Blogging is not just an effective branding tool. It’s also an effective public relations tool, allowing you to further build your image and brand.
2. You can become an expert.
When you share what you know on a topic, it gives you the opportunity to be perceived as an expert. You are providing additional value to your product.
When you are perceived as an expert, people are more likely to listen to what you have to say.
By establishing yourself as an expert on a topic, you are offering value to potential customers that your competition isn’t. Not only that, you can drastically cut your marketing expenses because your potential customers are coming to you.
This is called pull marketing. Pull marketing is much more effective than push marketing because you are drawing customers to you, and they already want what you have to sell.
3. You can establish credibility.
Credibility is a difficult thing to establish on the internet. You need to gain your potential customer’s trust before he/she will buy from you.
Although there are certain things you can do that can help with trust and credibility, like adding your phone number to your site, a blog is more effective. It will help you get your potential customer to see you as a real person, not just someone behind a computer.
4. You can create a new marketing channel.
Email marketing isn’t as effective as it used to be. Too many problems exist now with spam and filters. It can be nearly impossible for you to get your marketing message through.
With blogs, you can use RSS, as well as other forms of communication, like podcasting, to get your marketing message through.
Blogging opens up technology for you in a way that email doesn’t. It gives you a variety of ways to distribute your marketing message and increases your chances of your marketing message being effective.
5. Creates a communications channel with your potential customers.
Blogs are interactive. You can allow your potential customer to leave messages for you in your comments. He/she can ask you questions, and you can respond more quickly.
This will also save you time in the future because others may have the same questions. You’ll already have the answer easily available.
Blogs are also more responsive in that you can write about the latest trends in your topic and give your potential customers the latest information.
6. Solves your search engine optimization problems.
Blogs are search engine friendly, and you can get your blog spidered faster and easier than you can a traditional site.
This can help you get traffic from the search engines quicker and easier, and the beauty of it is that it’s targeted traffic.
Although blogs may have started out as personal journals, their business application is far more reaching. Blogs can help you explode your business marketing efforts in a way that no other internet marketing method can. Blogging, although not required, is something you should consider if you want to increase your business and increase your profits.

Tips For Buying An Expensive Diamond Wedding Ring
A diamond wedding ring represents one of the most important purchases you will make in your life. The right ring can make just the right impression with your bride, while also serving as the perfect expression of your love. But how can you make such an expensive purchase with confidence? By having a firm understanding of the 4 C’s of course, and we’re not talking bread crumbs. The 4 C’s of a diamond determine its overall value and eye appeal. In this article, we’ll break down these important details while giving you the tips for buying an expensive diamond wedding ring
If you are unfamiliar with the 4 C’s, they simply stand for a diamond’s cut, color, clarity, and carat. These four characteristics are the benchmarks by which all diamonds are measured, and having a solid understanding of them will make buying an expensive diamond wedding ring a lot easier. Before we get started though, it is recommended that you only buy from a reputable jeweler. This will work to your advantage in a couple of ways. 1) The jeweler will be able to further discuss the 4 C’s with you in a knowledgeable fashion and 2) you will be sure that you are receiving the highest quality diamond. So, let’s take a look at the first C - cut.
The cut of the diamond refers to just that - the manner in which the diamond was originally shaped. The cut of the diamond is arguably the most important factor to consider when choosing a ring. The reason for this is because a well cut diamond will perpetually reflect light and create a visually stunning effect. If a diamond is poorly cut, the diamond may not reach its full potential, and you will most likely be wasting your money. Always be sure your expensive diamond wedding ring is cut to perfection, regardless of its actual shape (round, oval, pear, square, etc).
The second C is color. You may assume that a diamond is white, and this is true to some extent. However, diamonds have different shades of white, and these shades are graded using a letter system from D to Z. Naturally, diamonds with colors graded in the first few letters (D-G) tend to be very rare and therefore very expensive. But that’s not to say that diamonds graded with higher numbers aren’t just as stunning. Remember, the four factors taken as a whole will make the ultimate determination.
The third C is clarity, and this refers to the often undistinguishable “imperfections” of a diamond. As you probably know, diamonds are formed in nature, so they most times have some sort of inconsistency. What you are looking for (and what a reputable jeweler can help you find) is a diamond that has the least amount of these marks. These diamonds will have high clarity grades, and these are the diamonds that will be most worth your money.
The fourth and final C is carat. The diamond’s carat refers to its weight and size. It is important for you to know that jewelers will refer to carats as points in the business. For example, even though a carat actually weighs .2 grams, a jeweler will refer to a carat as 100 points. This tip will keep you from getting confused when looking at diamond specifications.
You now possess the necessary tips for buying an expensive diamond wedding ring. In addition to choosing a high quality jeweler, your new found knowledge of the 4 C’s will ensure that you make a wise and beautiful wedding ring purchase.

Amsterdam Diamonds
Amsterdam is a major historical location for the diamond industry. Walking down the streets you will see a lot of jewelry stores as well as many diamond businesses with prominent security systems and signs reading “guided diamond tours”.
If you go on these tours you’ll see some breathtaking diamonds, as well a chance to see these stones being cut and polished. And if you have some cash to spare, purchase one for $4000 to $400,000.
Amsterdam has an extended history relating to diamonds, and has been a major diamond center since Sephardic Jews introduced the diamond cutting industry to Amsterdam in the later 16th century. Nowadays there are about a dozen diamond cutting facilities in the city, 5 of which offer guided tours. The tours are free and are usually conducted 9am to 5pm each day.
Amsterdam has an extended heritage in the diamond business, and has been a major European diamond center since Sephardic Jews introduced the diamond cutting industry in the later 16th century. Ultra-Orthodox Jews are still prominent in worldwide diamond marketing and distribution, and urban legend has it they hide diamonds in their beards to move them through customs without being detected. Diamonds are not necessarily cheaper in Amsterdam; however prices are fairly competitive. At least you will have seen the stones being worked, and when you purchase from a factory you get an extensive description of the diamond you acquire so you know exactly what you are buying.
The following renowned diamond stores offer diamond-cutting and polishing tours, and sales of the finished diamonds:
Coster Diamonds
Gassan Diamonds
Stoeltie Diamonds
Van Moppes Diamonds, which was the the 1st company to offer guided tours.
Be sure to sample authentic Dutch food at the numerous cafes. If you have a chance eat a “brodje haring” (an open-faced sandwich with salted herring) or try other seafood specialties from the cuisine of this seafaring nation.
The best time to visit Holland is spring or fall when the heat of summer and the droves of tourists have departed and the leaves on the trees aren’t blocking the review of the monumental facades. The winters are penetratingly cold and wet with lots of rain and sleet. Because of the high humidity, it actually feels as cold as the thirty-below winters common in Canada. Come in spring (March through May) and catch the Holland Flower Festival at Keukenhof.
If you’re over 40, make sure you pack a pair of reading/magnifying glasses: museums tend to utilise microscopic lettertypes for their descriptive plaques.
Just here are a select few of Amsterdam’s major attractions:
Anne Frank Home (Anne Frank Huis)
National Museum (Rijksmuseum)
Van Gogh Museum
Red Light District
National Museum of Modern Art (Stedelijk Museum)
Amstelkring Museum (Our Lord in the Attic Chapel)
Museum Het Rembrandt Huis (Rembrandt House)
Jewish Historical Museum (Joods Historisch Museum)
Dam Square
Sauna Deco
Amsterdam sail:
Sail Amsterdam
If you love boats, KNSM Island with its shipping history is the place for you. Every five years this harbor area of Amsterdam hosts the Sail event. Every new edition attracts even more visitors (Sail 2000 welcomed two and a half million people). Every edition also offers even more Tall Ships and even more cultural activities in the area.
The Van Gogh Museum contains the largest collection of works by Vincent Van Gogh, the tragic artist who cut off his ear and committed suicide. You will find more than 200 incredible works from the Master’s hand, as well as 500 drawings and 700 written documents. Together these provide a historic insight into his life and art.
Amsterdam is a fascinating place with lots of things to see and do besides diamonds and diamond businesses. After one visit I’m sure you’ll be so fascinated you will be determined to come back.

Recovering from Scandal
For years the most visible public role for Peter Sutherland as chairman of BP PLC was to play host at the company’s yearly meeting. But after a run of oil spills, deadly accidents and an energy-trading scandal at BP, the 60-year-old former rugby player has rushed into the scrum.
Last year, the Irish politician and banker forced Chief Executive John Browne to publicly identify his retirement date. After Lord Browne’s shock decision last month to depart a year and a half earlier than previously planned, Mr. Sutherland must now buff BP’s image and manage the company’s first executive-suite transition in more than a decade.
Despite a persistent rise in oil prices its shares rose just 4.5 per cent in 2006, in comparison with a 36 per cent increase by Exxon Mobil Corp. and 15 per cent at Royal Dutch Shell PLC. Yesterday, the company announced fourth-quarter net income decreased by 22 per cent, in part reflecting lower production and lower natural-gas prices.
BP, meanwhile, faces U.S. criminal probes on multiple fronts — corrosion and oil spills in Alaska; a a refinery explosion in March 2005 which claimed the lives of 15 in Texas; as well as its energy-trading practices, with federal officials alleging BP traders manipulated propane markets in 2004. BP refutes this claim and says it is cooperating with investigators on all three inquiries.
Mr. Sutherland’s prominent public standing also underpins a trend that goes beyond BP: a transition in the boardroom dynamics at many of Europe’s biggest publicly traded companies. Nonexecutive directors here have in the past been criticized for leaving too much decision-making in the hands of powerful executives. In recent times, many firms are moving to strengthen their boards with independent and strong directors.
Until an accounting scandal rocked Shell in 2004, Shell’s British holding company had as its chairman a professor of geology. After the scandal, it employed Jorma Ollila, former chief executive officer of Nokia Corp as chairman. Unilever also appointed an outside chairman last month to cap a restructuring at the Anglo-Dutch consumer-goods giant.
Mr. Sutherland’s mission at BP has always been to establish a “robust” and independent board of directors he was quoted as saying in a recent interview. After short periods as Ireland’s attorney general and Europe’s competition czar, Peter Sutherland took over negotiations known as the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade in Geneva in 1993. There, he clinched the Uruguay Round, a pivotal trade agreement that set the basis for today’s World Trade Organization. For a man who has achieved so much it is difficult to forsee where he will find his next challenge.
Diamond Rings - 3 Quick Tips to Avoid Paying Too Much
Most of us are true novices when it comes to shopping for diamond rings and other jewelry. There’s a lot that goes into the process of evaluating the relative worth of diamonds, primarily centered around what are called the ‘4 C’s’ (clarity, cut, color, carat-weight). Unless you’ve bought a number of diamonds, chances are you’re more or less clueless. That’s certainly a common occurrence, so don’t feel bad!
Here are three easily remembered tips for the next time diamond ring shopping confronts you. Print this out or jot them down and keep in your wallet or purse. Assuming you remember you did so when the moment arrives, you’ll be armed with the basic knowledge necessary to avoid being taken to the cleaners by a clever jewelry shop salesperson.
Tip #1 - Always Get a Guarantee
This is a must. Never ever, under any circumstances, take the word of a diamond jewelry “expert” in a store on the value of a diamond (loose or in a setting). The shifty ones prey on excited customers who are novices and, thus, prone to making impulse purchases. Even if the seller offers official-looking paperwork as proof of the diamond’s quality, demand an ironclad written guarantee. If they balk, leave and shop elsewhere.
Tip #2 - Don’t Let Size Decide
If there’s one enduring myth about buying diamond rings and other jewelry, it’s that big diamonds are always worth more. In fact, the exact opposite is often true! Remember the ‘4 C’s’ mentioned earlier. Carat-weight is just one of four. A simple example will suffice to illustrate this point. If you have the choice between a large diamond that rates lower on clarity and color than one with the same cut that’s smaller but has a higher rating on clarity and color, choose the smaller option. The overall quality of the smaller diamond almost always makes it worth more as a long-term investment than the lesser quality big one. The bottom line: only let carat-weight decide if the clarity and color of two diamonds are identical (or at least very close).
Tip #3 - Ignore the Ring
This one trips up a lot of impulse buyers who fall in love with the ring setting, to the point of virtually ignoring the diamond it holds. If you remember one simple fact, you might be able to keep a rein on your emotions: diamonds are forever; settings can be changed easily. Don’t let the ring itself distract you from the primary concern, which is the quality and long-term value of the diamond that the ring merely holds in place.
Of course, at the end of the day, you have to really love what you’re buying. If you see a diamond ring you just have to have, you can ignore all of this and go for it. If you have the monetary means, why not, right? But, for the vast majority of us, following the simple tips outlined above will prevent a disaster in the making. Good luck!

Horse Jewelry
“As full of spirit as the month of May, and as gorgeous as the sun in Midsummer.” Shakespeare aptly describes the beauty and strength of a magnificent horse. A horse is an embodiment of freedom and majesty. It is a symbol of unification of the elements - the heat of fire and the force of wind. Horses have been and will always be one of the most popular themes of jewelry. Horse jewelry captures the true spirit of the splendid animal and lets you sport it.
Whether etched or painted, the figure of a horse on a pendant, cameo or even on the dial of a wristwatch exudes sheer force. Equally elegant and grand are little figures of horses cast in gold or silver, dangling from earrings and bracelets. Many other kinds of jewelry, like necklaces, rings, cuff links and tie tacks, are fashioned after horses. Not only jewelry but other accessories like key rings, hair clips and zipper pulls are also made to convey the raw equestrian power. Horse jewelry is often made of precious metals like gold, silver and platinum, and is studded with diamonds and other gemstones. In addition to jewelry with horse images, jewelry with horseshoe designs is also popular. Equally in style is jewelry made of real horse hair.
Horse jewelry is a perfect adornment for those who love horses. It not only expresses your love for the wonderful friend that a horse is, but also conveys the wild freedom that it symbolizes. Horse ornaments are not only great keepsakes, but also act as perfect gifts for horse enthusiasts. And they look dazzling!
Horse Jewelry provides detailed information on Horse Jewelry, Gold Horse Jewelry, Horse Hair Jewelry, Wholesale Horse Jewelry and more. Horse Jewelry is affiliated with Fine Jewelry.

I Just Had an Intriguing Email…
Not so much the email itself, which was interesting, but more where it was sent from. A little note from my colleague at the end of the email informed me (in an ever so slightly gloating way) that he had sent it, using his new mobile broadband, from a restaurant
Now that intrigues me. He has always been up on the new business techniques, from business motivation to business broadband, so this wasn’t a surprise. But he seems to think that mobile Internet for laptops is the future, and it seems hard to argue with him.
The ability to have broadband attached to a laptop anywhere sounds very useful. From getting work done on a train, to having it ready and waiting at a client meeting, the uses are multitude.
So looking around for deals at the moment on Broadbandgenie.co.uk it seems there are rather a lot, not sure how I missed it before! It is surprisingly cheap, and some even have a free laptop attached to them. I am torn between a couple of options at the moment but hope to decide which mobile broadband Internet provider to go with by the end of the week.

Easy,Fun and Frugal Winter Crafts for Children
Winter is here! Dress warmly, bundle up, enjoy the snow. Build a snowman, shovel the driveway, have a snowball fight - spend time playing. When it’s time to get warm - pull out supplies to have a snow crafty afternoon with the kids. Everyone will enjoy a snow-filled day of fun with four easy (and frugal) craft ideas for children.
Start off the snow craft party with some Snowman Soup. Make a package of Hot Chocolate mix (the Nestle kind is great!) according to the package directions, but make it in a soup bowl. Add two Hershey Kisses, three regular size marshmallows and stir it all together with a candy cane. Yummy treat and great way to warm up from that cold weather!
Finished with the Snowman Soup? How about creating a cute paper bag snowman for the next easy craft? Only a few supplies are required for the snowman - 2 white paper bags, newspaper or scrap paper, 18″ string or yarn, construction paper to make Snowman accessories, and glue. Open one of the white paper bags and stuff it with crushed newspaper. Open the second paper bag and carefully pull it down over the newspaper-stuffed bag. Simply tie the yarn or string around the bags to make a separation for the head and the body of the snowman. Then comes the creative part - cut out eyes, nose, hat, buttons from construction paper and glue them onto the snowman. Let the child’s creativity shine - there’s no snowman rules. When finished, put the snowman on display in a window or on a table for a great wintery centerpiece.
Another fun, easy and quick craft project involves paper doilies. Paper doilies are readily available at party stores and craft stores. To craft a doily snowman, the following items are needed: three white doilies (one small, one medium, one large), glue, 12″ x 18″ construction paper. Ask the child to build a snowman with the three circles, then glue the doilies onto the large piece of construction paper. Pull out some crayons, markers or construction paper to make snowman features - the eyes, nose, mouth, etc. Have fun and let the child’s creativity shine. Again, there are no rules in crafting play.
Looking for something a little messier? Another easy snow craft involves white tempera paint, silver glitter, blue or black construction paper and a snowflake sponge or stamp. Create a glittery snowflake picture by dipping the snowflake sponge or stamp in tempera paint and stamping it on the paper. Stamp as much or as little as desired, there’s no limit. While paint is still wet, sprinkle glitter on the picture. When it dries, the snowflake picture will be ready for display.
The most important part of crafting with kids is that everyone enjoys the process, the results and the companionship. Enjoy the snow, enjoy the crafts and love those kids!
Snow Crafts was written by Kim Monaco (with help from her Preschool Teacher mom), a crafty work at home mommy and owner of Learn Crafts Online. Monaco enjoys sitting down and crafting with her children, even messy crafts sometimes!

How Blogging Can Help You with SEO - A Beginner’s Guide
Blogging is fun and easy to do, and you may be interested in learning how blogging can help you with SEO. You don’t have to be a programming genius to set up and maintain a blog. You don’t even need to know HTML. If you are new to blogs, websites, and online business in general, start by taking the easy road to learning how blogging can help you with SEO.
First, sign up with a free blogging service, such as Blogger at http://www.blogger.com or Blogit at http://www.blogit.com. Setting up an account is very easy, and takes about five minutes. This is the easiest way to get started blogging, and you can increase your website popularity in the search engines a bit while doing it. Simply use your website URL in each of your blog posts. In other words, every time you write your blog, make sure that you refer to your website. This provides you with inbound links.
Once you get the hang of blogging, your next step in learning how blogging can help you with SEO is to set up a blog on your website. Many webhosting accounts now include blogs. If you can’t figure out how to set one up on your website, contact your webhosting company. They will either do it for you, or tell you how to do it. Some webhosting companies charge for the setup, some do not.
Once your blog is set up on your website, continue doing what you’ve already learned how to do, but add another step. Each time you post, you can still refer to specific pages on your website, but also use your keywords throughout each of the posts. For a post that is three or four hundred words long, use your keywords and key word phrases five or six times. This will optimize those posts for the search engines.
As you continue to blog, you will continually be adding new content to your website. As you add new content, your ranking will go up in the search engines. Each time you finish posting to your blog, you need to let the rest of the world know that you’ve done so by pinging it. This is done through Ping-O-Matic at http://www.pingomatic.com. This will send a ping to several blog directories.
You should put a link to your blog on your website - whether it is hosted remotely or through your webhosting account. This will help increase traffic to your blog, and help you develop a readership. As people become more and more interested in your blog, two things will happen. First, your search engine ranking will go up simply based on the amount of traffic your blog is getting.
Second, other bloggers will start sending Trackbacks to your blog on their blogs so that their readers can see what you have to say on certain topics. This helps build your readership as well. It is a never ending circle that just keeps getting bigger if you know what you are doing!
You should also send Trackbacks to other people’s blogs as well. When they see the Trackback, they will usually visit your blog to see what you had to say about theirs. Again, this increases your traffic, and potentially increases your readership as well.
Make it a habit to post to your blog regularly. You can post daily, weekly, or even monthly - but posting daily or weekly will get you the best results if you are trying to learn how blogging can help you with SEO. Blog posts can be long or short. If you have a lot of time to write, make them long. If you only have a few minutes to spare each day, write one or two paragraphs - just be sure to use your keywords and key phrases!
