Parents with twins or those having two babies just a few months apart definitely need a double pushchair. Such a pushchair makes it easier for the parents to take both babies along while going anywhere.

Double pushchairs are primarily of two types: twin and tandem. The twin pushchair is used mostly by parents with twins. The tandem on the other hand is best suited for couples whose babies have a short age gap between them.

In a tandem pushchair, the elder child is seated in front while the younger one is placed at the back, facing forward. The rear seat is usually so designed that it can convert to a bed for the infant. For this purpose, the rear seat is usually fully padded.

Tandem pushchairs are usually a little wider than the standard pushchairs as they have to accommodate older children as well. The design is such that the older child is less likely to disturb the younger one. Their narrow width as compared to twin pushchairs also enables parents to push them easily through narrow places.

Tandem pushchairs also have a set of distinct disadvantages. Firstly, they are slightly heavier than twin pushchairs. Secondly, their elongated wheelbase means that they are less manoeuvrable. Thirdly, storage can also be a problem sometimes as they are not easy to fold and store. Lastly, they are not as stable as twin pushchairs; hence, careful handling is required.
